The Dalecarlian Horse or Dala Horse has been adopted from northern Swedish province of Dalarna, where it has been carved in wood, adored and adorned for several centuries. The early norsemen considered the horse a holy animal and carved likenesses of them. Miniatures were made to carry on a person as an icon - to ward off evil.
